Kittens should start their core vaccines at 6–8 weeks of age, with boosters every 2–4 weeks until they are 16 weeks or older. Vaccines help protect against common serious diseases such as feline panleukopenia and cat flu.
| Age | Vaccine |
|---|---|
| 6–8 weeks | First dose of core vaccine: feline panleukopenia + cat flu |
| Every 2–4 weeks | Boosters until 16 weeks of age or older |
| 2–4 months | First rabies dose, then 1 booster 1 month later |
| 6 months – 1 year | Core vaccine booster, as scheduled by your vet |
| Every year | Health check + rabies; your vet plans the next doses |

Feline leukemia (FeLV) is recommended for cats under 1 year old or cats that go outdoors. A blood test is needed first. It is given as 2 doses, 3–4 weeks apart, and can start from 8 weeks of age. Your vet will advise based on your kitten's risk.
Before the vaccine, your kitten should be healthy:
After the vaccine, your kitten may be a little sleepy or have a mild fever for 1–2 days. If you see facial swelling, difficulty breathing or vomiting, bring your kitten back to the vet right away.

The actual vaccine schedule depends on your vet's assessment.
